Motorcycle hill near Capistrano Beach, 1920s - S42
A 75 percent grade which was crested on March 18, 1917 by Calvin Lambert of Santa Ana on a Series 18 Excelsior. A crowd of 7,500 watched this feat which merited a prize of $25. The hill continued to draw crowds of up to 30,000 as late as 1924. Motorcycle Hill remained until it was carved out for the freeway construction in the 1950s.
